Netflix’s Adolescence: A Mirror to Youth Violence and a Call to Action
Netflix’s latest hit, Adolescence, isn’t just gripping drama — it’s an urgent reflection of the harsh realities facing today’s youth, especially the rise in knife crime and youth offending.

With over 50,000 knife-enabled crimes recorded in England and Wales in the year ending March 2024 — a 4% rise from the previous year — the series highlights the vulnerabilities of young people and the dangerous influence of toxic systemic neglect and incel culture.

It’s a wake-up call.
We, as a society — parents, educators, policymakers, and advocates — need to:
✅ Start real, open conversations with young people about their struggles, mental health, and online influences.

✅ Push for systemic changes to address racial over-representation in youth crime statistics and tackle social inequality.

✅ Create safe, supportive environments where young people feel heard, valued, and guided toward better choices.

Let’s not wait for another headline or tragedy to spark action. We owe it to the next generation to provide better alternatives, stronger role models, and safer futures.

Why We Must Prioritize? Investment in Creative Arts, Quality Education, Home Affairs, and Youth Projects — Over Militarization and Civil Unrest

As the world navigates rising global tensions and economic uncertainty, we must ask ourselves: where should our investments truly go?

While defense spending through NATO and responses to civil unrest dominate headlines, the long-term security and prosperity of our communities rely on something far deeper — investment in people and opportunities ⤵️
Creative Arts: A thriving arts sector nurtures innovation, mental well-being, and cultural understanding. It empowers young people to express themselves, find purpose, and build careers beyond traditional paths.

Quality Education: Accessible, inclusive education is the cornerstone of progress. It cultivates critical thinking, creativity, and leadership — essential traits for solving tomorrow’s challenges, not perpetuating today’s conflicts.

Home Affairs: Stable, secure housing and social infrastructure ensure families can thrive. No child should grow up facing homelessness, food insecurity, or a broken welfare system.

Youth Projects: Investing in youth-led initiatives prevents violence, supports mental health, and fosters civic engagement. By giving young people a seat at the table, we build a generation that drives positive change — not one left to fight the consequences of neglect.
We must shift the narrative.
Global stability starts within our communities, classrooms, and homes — not just on the battlefield.
Let’s challenge governments, institutions, and policymakers to prioritize human investment over militarized budgets. The true path to peace isn’t through force — it’s through empowerment.
