Short Statement from: Guest Speakers 🗣
“Women are central to the success of humanitarian efforts, yet they often face systemic exclusion from decision-making and leadership roles. In South Sudan, gender-based violence (GBV) is alarmingly pervasive, with 65% of women experiencing violence in their lifetime. This is compounded by barriers to accessing education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, leaving women disproportionately vulnerable during crises.
Despite these challenges, women continue to lead and contribute to peacebuilding and recovery efforts, showcasing their resilience and capacity to drive change. However, their potential remains underutilized due to entrenched gender inequalities in humanitarian responses.

To create meaningful and lasting impact, we must prioritize gender-sensitive humanitarian approaches. This includes ensuring women’s voices are heard in peace negotiations, addressing GBV comprehensively, and removing structural barriers that limit access to resources. Women should not only be seen as beneficiaries of aid but as active participants and leaders in crafting solutions.

Let’s commit to a future where women are empowered to take their rightful place in shaping humanitarian policies and actions. Because when women lead, communities thrive.
