▪︎ Famous examples include the Treaty of Paris (1815), signed after Napoleon’s defeat at the Battle of Waterloo, and the Treaty of Versailles, formally ending the First World War between Germany and the Allies.
▪︎ During the course of the Paris Peace Conference, three treaties were signed with members of the former Central Powers, with two additional treaties finalized after the official closing of the conference in January 1920. The first, and most significant, was the Treaty of Versailles, signed on June 28, 1919.
▪︎ The Treaty of Paris of 1763 ended the French and Indian War/Seven Years’ War between Great Britain and France, as well as their respective allies. In the terms of the treaty, France gave up all its territories in mainland North America, effectively ending any foreign military threat to the British colonies there.

▪︎ Legal agreement between two or more hostile parties, usually countries or governments, which formally ends a state of war between the two parties.
