Aquayemi-Claude Exposes SEND and Home Affairs Neglect in the UK Government

Date: 18/05/24

Aquayemi-Claude has conducted an in-depth investigation revealing longstanding neglect in Special Educational Needs (SEND) and Home Affairs investment by successive British governments. This neglect, particularly under the leadership of former Prime Minister David Cameron, has created significant challenges and injustices within the education and social care systems.

Key Findings:

1. Neglect and Cost-Cutting Measures:

The Cameron government made decisions that prioritized cost-cutting over the provision of quality education and social care. This approach has resulted in a ‘black hole’ of investment, severely impacting the education and welfare of children with special needs.

2. Unlawful Interlinking of Education and Health:

There has been an unlawful merging of education with health and social care responsibilities. This interlinking allows the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) to surveil students, ostensibly to save costs by reducing benefits, which infringes on students’ privacy and human rights. It also leads to placing children into care unnecessarily, compounding the neglect of their educational needs.

3. Lack of Accountability and Legal Evasion:

Local authorities frequently claim insufficient funds for local projects and SEND services, despite generating significant income from taxes and investments. This lack of accountability and evasion of legal responsibilities has perpetuated the neglect of SEND students.

4. Profiteering at the Expense of Education:

The creation of oil and gas academies, such as the Oil & Gas Academy of Scotland (OGAS) and the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO), has been prioritized over the funding of quality education. These academies receive substantial government funding, highlighting a preference for business models that prioritize profit over educational outcomes. #YoungoLeaders #UNLeaders #QCTNetwork
