▪︎Library, traditionally, collection of books used for reading or study, or the building or room in which such a collection is kept. The word derives from the Latin liber, “book,” whereas a Latinized Greek word, bibliotheca, is the origin of the word for library in German, Russian, and the Romance languages.
▪︎The average American reads 12 books per year. 80% of American adults say they have read a book in the past year. 42% of college graduates read books for personal growth and development. 70% of adults have not been in a bookstore in the past five years.
▪︎ Studies have shown that those who read for pleasure have higher levels of self-esteem and a greater ability to cope with difficult situations. Reading for pleasure was also associated with better sleeping patterns. Adults who read for just 30 minutes a week are 20% more likely to report greater life satisfaction.
