¤ The Booker Prize, established in 1969, honors the best original novel written in the English language.

¤ It underwent changes, including the introduction of the Man Booker International Prize in 2005.
¤ In 2019, it became the Booker Prize for Fiction. Notable winners include Salman Rushdie and Margaret Atwood. The award brings global recognition and often boosts book sales.

¤ The first winner was P.H. Newby for “Something to Answer For.”

¤ Over the years, the Booker has celebrated diverse voices and genres, contributing significantly to literary discourse and cultural impact. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, additional statistics may be available since then.

¤ Each year, the prize is awarded to what is, in the opinion of the judges, the best sustained work of fiction written in English and published in the UK and Ireland.
¤ It is a prize that transforms the winner’s career. The winner receives £50,000 as well as the £2,500 awarded to each of the six shortlisted authors.
