¤ The UK has almost doubled how much in-donor refugee costs it reports per recipient compared to pre-pandemic levels, and this is largely due to an increase in the number of arrivals and extensive hotel use.  

¤ The asylum backlog is growing and fuelling hotel use as more people arrive and wait longer for a decision. 

¤ Clearing the backlog will move individuals out of expensive hotel accommodation that is costing between £5-6 million per day.
