▪︎What’s the difference between serendipity and coincidence? Serendipity is a series of chance events resulting in a happy or beneficial ending. Coincidence is the occurrence of events that happen at the same time by accident but seem to have some connection.
▪︎Serendipitous is an adjective that describes accidentally being in the right place at the right time, like bumping into a good friend in some unusual location, or finding a hundred dollar bill on the ground.
▪︎ Examples of ‘serendipity’ in a sentence
• But a moment of pure serendipity happened.
• There’s a strange serendipity to the garden.
• Life has a strange serendipity.
• There is a little serendipity.
• Sometimes we stay in luxurious hotels, but often we’ll take a chance on serendipity and go somewhere simple.
▪︎Serendipity involves uncertainty, which entails fortuity. Evidence shows that serendipity can be positive or negative (Loewenstein, 1994; Calvo and Castillo, 2001).
▪︎ Cultivate Serendipity by Getting Involved in 2022
• Curiosity—be open to and explore new learning opportunities.
• Optimism—view new opportunities as possible and obtainable.
• Persistence—exert effort despite setbacks.
• Flexibility—adapt to changing attitudes and circumstances.
