¤ Equinor
Rosebank, which is owned by Norwegian fossil fuel giant Equinor and domestic operator Ithaca Energy, has the potential to produce up to 500m barrels of oil – roughly equivalent to eight per cent of the UK’s entire oil output between 2026 and 2030.

“This money would be far better spent retrofitting the UK’s 19m homes. This would not only help reduce current eye-watering energy bills but also help create thousands of green new jobs, as well as helping tackle the climate crisis,” Duggan added.

¤ The UK has some of the least energy efficient housing stock in Europe, and the government has pledged around £13bn on energy efficiency packages.

¤ It is targeting a 15 per cent reduction in energy usage and wants all homes to have an energy performance certificate rating of C or above.”

¤ However, much of this funding does not kick in until the next parliament, while installation rates for insulation have flatlined over the past decade.

People in the UK want an affordable energy supply that doesn’t put our climate at risk.

🔹️ This government is failing on both counts if it keeps approving new fields like Rosebank. Right now, most of us are locked into using fossil fuels and forced to pay extortionate heating and fuel bills, all the while knowing that the UK has the best renewable resources in Europe that could supply us with affordable, less polluting energy. Meanwhile, companies like Shell and Equinor tell us – and our government – that change isn’t possible (yet), while they continue to rip us off.

🔹️ We should be winding down production of oil and gas while making sure that workers and impacted communities are not left behind – this is what’s called a ‘just transition’.

🔹️ Done properly, with the right support and investment, the move away from fossil fuels could see three jobs in clean energy for every oil and gas job at risk. Only those currently raking in oil and gas profits would lose.
