Hundreds of students and recent graduates of top UK universities are pledging a “career boycott” of major insurers, saying they will not work for firms including Lloyd’s of London if they support controversial fossil fuel projects.

More than 500 current and recent students from the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, University College London, University of Edinburgh and others have warned they will keep a close eye on firms that fail to shift to climate-friendly policies.

Great news! 500 students & recent graduates have pledged not to work for companies insuring climate-wrecking projects EACOP and Rosebank.

As an aging industry, the insurance industry is desperate for new recruits. A 2020 study estimated that 50% of the insurance workforce will retire by 2028! It’s very important for them to maintain appeal to young people, but they won’t be getting them if they continue to insure climate chaos.

Fossil fuel projects need insurance to be built, and if no insurance company is willing to provide it, it can’t be built. We’ve already got 23 insurance companies to refuse to insure EACOP.  Each new fossil fuel project threatens the future of the young workers the insurance industry is desperate to recruit. The East African Crude Oil Pipeline, the longest heated oil pipeline in the world, or Rosebank, the biggest undeveloped oil field in the UK.
