Coronation is the ceremony in which a monarch is officially crowned and invested with regal authority. It is a formal and often elaborate ritual that signifies the beginning of a new reign and the transfer of power. Coronation ceremonies typically include the anointing of the monarch with holy oil, the presentation of regalia and symbols of power, and a public oath of allegiance to the new ruler. The British coronation is one of the most famous and is steeped in tradition, with the last one taking place in 1953 when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned. In Japan, the Emperor is enthroned in a ceremony called sokui-go-seiden, which includes offering prayers to various Shinto deities. In Thailand, the coronation of a new king includes a three-day celebration featuring traditional dances, music, and feasts.  Overall, coronations have played an important role in the history and culture of many societies, and continue to be significant ceremonial events today.
