• The Commonwealth Games, often referred to as the Friendly Games, is a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The event was first held in 1930, and, with the exception of 1942 and 1946, have successively run every four years since.

• In the 63 Commonwealth Games that have taken place since the inaugural tournament in Ontario, Canada in 1930, more than 10,000 medals have already been won. Australia’s swimmer Emma McKeon has 20 medals now and is the most decorated athlete in Commonwealth Games history.

• The British Empire Games
From 1930 to 1950 the Games were known as the British Empire Games, from 1954 until 1966 the British Empire and Commonwealth Games and from 1970 to 1974 they took on the title of British Commonwealth Games.
