A total lunar eclipse took place between May 15-16 2022, the first of two total lunar eclipses in 2022. A second eclipse will happen on 8 November.

The May full moon is almost upon us, bringing with it the potential for a spectacular visual phenomenon: a total lunar eclipse.

This display, referred to by many as a “blood moon,” happens when the Earth is positioned precisely between the Sun and the Moon so that all three are in a straight line.
There are two total lunar eclipses happening in 2022. However, this is the only one which can be seen in the UK, with the next one – which takes place on 8 November – most visible from South-East Asia to North America.
