Eating Disorder Awareness Week
Next week is Eating Disorder Awareness Week. It’s a change to learn more about eating disorders and campaign for change.
An eating disorder or eating problem is any relationship with good that we find difficult. It’s a complicated mental health problem. It can affect anyone of any age, race, gender or weight. An estimated 1.25 million people in the UK struggle with disordered eating. That’s about 1 in 50 people.
That’s why it’s so important the right support is in place for those of us affected. This Eating Disorder Awareness Week, Beat Eating Disorders are campaigning for all UK medical schools to provide proper training on eating disorders. Right now, GPs spend less than 2 hours learning about eating disorders during their medical degree. Without proper training, it’s hard to identify and treat eating disorders.
