As the summer term ends, parents are starting to kit their children out with uniforms, sportswear and other items of equipment ready for the next academic year.

But at a meeting of Hertfordshire County Council on Tuesday (July 20), it was widely acknowledged that the cost to parents can be in excess of £350.
