The journey of a baby sea turtle as it struggles out of the nest and scrambles toward the ocean is a drastic test for the young animal. Driftwood, crabs and even deep footprints in the sand represent potential life-threatening obstacles, yet the turtles persevere forward towards water and towards life.⁠⁠

This month, our community, The Tide, is partnering with the Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) in Bastimentos Island, Panama, to provide vital support to endangered sea turtle populations in the area. What sets the STC apart is their commitment to empowering local indigenous community members, like the Ngäbe, to get directly involved in the conservation process. By working jointly with indigenous community members, we believe this project will ensure the role of Bastimentos Island National Marine Park as a major contributor to the regional recovery of both leatherback and hawksbill turtles.⁠⁠

Sea turtles are some of the most graceful swimmers to call the ocean home. Even more impressively, they have enabled our seas to stay healthy for over 100 million years.
