July 15 marks World Youth Skills Day. This is a day designated by the United Nations (UN) to raise awareness on the importance of developing skilled youth through vocational education. This is so vital as developing skilled youth will improve their employment outcomes. Skilled youth also have a crucial role to play in leading solutions and addressing current and future global challenges.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 crisis, there has been an increase in the amount of young people not in education, training or employment across many countries. Thus, the UN has stated that ‘World Youth Skills Day 2021 will pay tribute to the resilience and creativity of youth through the crisis’.
